Africa’s premier trail running festival gets underway in just over six weeks
Places remain in the 100km and 100 Mile races as runners chase their hundred and the Wall of Honour celebrates every finisher
Cape Town, Wednesday 30 September 2026: In just over six weeks, thousands of athletes from around the world will converge on the Mother City for what promises to be another landmark edition of RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town (RMB UTCT). Race weekend takes place from 20 to 22 November 2026, with six distances across Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula, from the accessible 16km to the gruelling 100 Mile UTCT.
As the finale of the World Trail Majors, RMB UTCT has firmly established itself as a must-race destination for both local and international trail runners. In 2025, the event welcomed 2,800 athletes from 66 countries, and South African runners delivered a standout performance in the 100 Miler, winning both the men’s and women’s titles and taking all three places on the women’s podium.
“The performances we witnessed in the 2025 edition were truly world-class. South African athletes showed they can compete with the very best in the world,” says Stuart McConnachie, Race Director, RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town.
Entries for the shorter distances sold out at an incredible pace earlier in the year, leaving places only in the 100km UT100 and the 100 Mile UTCT. Twelve years after the inaugural race, the UT100 is edging closer to a potential sellout for the first time, a monumental milestone for the event. Interest in the 100 Mile UTCT continues to build, and the field is growing with it.
The Hundreds Wall of Honour
Last year, organisers unveiled the Hundreds Wall of Honour, a permanent tribute to every runner who has completed an UT100 (100km) or UTCT (100 Mile) race. Finishing a hundred is, by any measure, a significant achievement. Once completed, it stays etched in a runner’s DNA, and the Wall of Honour ensures that every finisher joins the select few who are part of the 100s.
McConnachie explains: “In sport, hundreds separate the good from the great. A century in cricket. The 100-metre sprint. A 100mph serve. Basketball’s 100-point game. A perfect 10. At its core, hundreds represent abundance, dedication, and the accumulation of small efforts that lead to extraordinary outcomes. It’s hundreds of training runs, hundreds of doubts overcome, hundreds of people who believe in you, and ultimately, hundreds of kilometres or miles that transform ordinary people into legends of their own making.”
Chasing Their Hundred
Runners from around the world are already preparing to head to Cape Town in pursuit of their hundred. Whether first-timers or seasoned veterans, each athlete arrives with the same ambition: to test their bodies, minds and willpower against the distance, the elements and the challenging terrain of Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula. Those still to enter can choose between the 100km UT100 and the 100 Mile UTCT, and pick their hundred.
“Every hundred has a story. Every runner has something to say. This is where we share the journeys behind the finish lines, the decision to sign up, the brutal training, the race-day highs and lows, and that moment when you realise you’re going to make it,” adds McConnachie.
