Dopeni Mayoral Imbizo promises better services to local community

As part of ongoing Public Participation Programme known as “Imbizo”, Thulamela local municipality Mayor ,  Athongozwidivha Sarah Rambuda engaged with community members about service delivery challenges and expectations in Ward 27  in Dopeni village’s Mutuwafhethu Primary sports ground on Friday, 27 October

The main aim of the visit was to strengthen relationships with community stakeholders and improve service delivery challenges encountered by residents of Thulamela local municipality.

 Mayor Rambuda together with her entourage which includes councilors and some officials from the municipality stat the day by visited, Rabelani Tshikovhi, a disabled person who lived in a one roomed house and after accessing the situation, Rambuda pledged herself to build a house for him.

A representative of  Dopeni , Shanzha, Tshivhilidulu and some surrounding communities in ward 27, Mpho Matika told Thulamela mayor, that  the bad state of roads, water shortages , electricity supply  are some of the challenges his communities need to be addressed as matter of urgency.

“We are situated in deep rural communities and we are worried about the bad state of roads, water shortages from the taps, electricity supply in some of the new village’s extensions. Crime is also rife here in our communities and we appeal to the mayor to erect Apollo lights, which will help in bringing better lights during the night,” said Matika

Vhamusanda Pfananani Shavhani of Shanzha village in his submission to the mayor and her entourage said as traditional leaders, they are custodians of the people, hence they will be happy if Thulamela municipality will be committed in changing life for better for the communities.

He said the presence and participation of traditional leaders in the running of some programmes in local municipalities around the Vhembe district, will help in speeding up services delivery like water, roads and electricity.

In her summation of responses and way forward, Thulamela mayor Athongozwidivha Sarah Rambuda said she was happy that, the municipality was gearing up in the delivery of services saying, she got a report informing her that the construction of about 40 RDP houses allocated in ward 27, electricity projects for some extension villages are progressing well and will be completed very soon.

According to Rambuda, although water supply was not the responsibility of them as a local municipality, they work as one team with the Vhembe district municipality and she promised to urgently hand over challenges of water supply to the affected communities in ward 27 to the district municipality.
